JEN COL is proud to be delivering the new Public Works Operations Centre for the City of Cold Lake, a transformative project that will serve as the backbone of the City’s municipal operations for decades to come.

Located on a 40-acre site north of 69 Avenue and west of 16 Street, the new facility replaces an aging operations centre that no longer meets the demands of a growing community. Designed as a centralized hub for Infrastructure Services, the development brings together administration, fleet maintenance, utilities, roads, parks, transit and waste management into one modern, highly efficient campus.

At the heart of the site is a main administration building that serves as the public-facing component, supporting office, training and operational coordination functions. Surrounding this are specialized pre-engineered buildings and service areas designed to support maintenance, storage and day-to-day municipal operations. The site layout prioritizes safe and efficient movement for both heavy vehicles and pedestrians, while allowing for flexible yard use and future expansion.

Long-term planning has been a key driver of the design. The facility accommodates a 25-year growth projection for programming, 30 years for building expansion and up to 50 years for site development and overall lifecycle. Structural, mechanical and electrical systems have all been designed with future expansion in mind, ensuring the City can adapt as operational needs evolve.

Sustainability has also been thoughtfully integrated into the project. The design incorporates practical, cost-effective strategies aimed at reducing long-term operating costs while supporting the City’s commitment to environmental stewardship.

Currently under construction, progress on site continues to advance across multiple buildings. Work includes completing exterior insulated metal panels and roofing on the operations wings, installing trench drains and concrete slabs, and progressing into mechanical and electrical systems. The central office building is also taking shape, with interior rough-ins underway and finishing work scheduled in the coming months.

Once complete, the Public Works Operations Centre will provide Cold Lake with a modern, efficient and future-ready facility supporting the essential services that keep the community running every day.
